Dubya not welcome here
It’s mostly clear by now that majority of the Mumbaikars are not happy with the U. S President Mr. Bush’s visit to India and the rest simply don’t give a damn.
Muslims and Left parties have organised a huge protest against US president at Azad Maidan today.
Here are the details. [Source : Mid-day]
What — Huge protest
Where — At Azad Maidan, CST
When — 2 pm
For What — To oppose US President George Bush’s three-day visit to India.
Why — They are demonstrating against Bush for his “tyrannical and authoritarian attitude” towards other nations, especially in the Muslim world. They say Bush has ordered the killing of thousands of innocent people in Afghanistan and then went into Iraq without a valid reason. They are also upset with the situation in US prisons such as Abu Ghraib in Iraq and Guntanamo Bay in Cuba.
How many organisations — Around 42 religious, social and political organisation, including CPI, CPM, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Mahasangh.
Security — Deputy Commissioner of Police Naval Bajaj said, “We have made arrangements to ensure the protest remains peaceful. Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Satish Mathur added, “We will not let the demonstrators disrupt daily life around CST. All demonstrators’ vehicles will be parked at Cross Maidan and MG Road.
How many people — Organisors claim lakhs will participate, but a conservative estimate is one lakh.

George Bush is not coming to Bombay, so this seems a bit pointless to me. But wait, it’s obviously not pointless for the Samajwadi / Left parties. It’s their little limelight grabbing show!
And I’m a bit unclear on how you’re “mostly clear” on the views of a majority of Mumbaikars.
Yazad - Maybe I was a bit hasty in using the word ‘majority’….but then again it was based on the number of anti-Bush write ups in daily newspapers, audience polls and views on TV channels, along with my own conversations with others.
Yup, Bush is not visiting Mumbai but then again the protest is against him coming to India. Agreed for political parties..its time to hogg attention but I actually know quite a few people who are joining in the protest..who do not belong to any of the political parties.
Guys, I was there very intense I intend to share the pictures.
There was a valid reason Bush went to Iraq, but I guess that is neither here nor there. I suppose you’ll support a regieme that intends to kill it’s own people.
mmmkay.
Yazad
Really well said !!
I agree completely. The whole tamasha in Bombay serves no purpose to the actual cause. The only people who benifit are the leaders who will in the future always brag about how they protested against Bush. That will be harped on forever without every touching upon the fact that the nearest the protestors got to Bush was a 1000 km. away.
