Mass Conversion to Buddhism

The city witnessed one of the largest mass conversions in modern history this Sunday. This was on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the conversion of Ambedkar to Buddhism.

More than 50,000 people converged on the Mahalaxmi Race Course and after a day of speeches and sermons converted to Buddhism.

This is otherwise good news, except that its been tainted with politics and vote-banks. Depending on who you listen to, the Dalits are doing this to become a stronger voting block, or the politicians are encouraging it to garner support. Ah, politics, always omnipresent in our everyday lives.
