City Boys Head to Maths Olympiad in Vietnam
Close on the heels of a city boy participating in the International Physics Olympiad, two city boys are amongst the team that will represent India at the International Mathematics Olympiad. The event is being held in Vietnam.
Manas Joglekar and Prashant Sohani are two city students who have been selected to represent the country at the International Mathematics Olympiad to be held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi next month.
They are among the six youngsters who will jet off to Vietnam for the contest which is being held from July 19 to July 31.
The duo was selected during an orientation-cum-selection camp at the Homi Babha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) on Thursday.
Interestingly, this will be 18year-old Joglekar’s second Olympiad. He and his team had won the bronze medal last year. “I will try my best to bring home a gold medal. I am looking forward to it as the competition will test my mettle,” he said. The young achiever also came 21 in the AllIndia IIT-JEE and plans to study computer science.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Sohani got second time lucky. “I have been preparing for the Olympiad for four years. I couldn’t make it in my first attempt, but this time I got selected,” he explained. Sohani is also one of the youngest competitors this year. [link]
