Shiv Sena Louts Attack Cybercafe

In what is becoming an every week even, the thugs at Shive Sena attacked a cybercafe in Kalyan. All because of Orkut, it seems.

There is a community on Orkut called ” I Hate Shiv Sena ” and the attackers said that people visiting the internet café were visiting the community online.

Are we turning into a militant state or what ?

The community on Orkut describes itself as

This Community is for all those people who are sick and tired of Bal Thackeray and his gang called shiv sena.. who for no good reason.. are spreading corruption in the country..

They are responsible for creating mass riots, innumerable sources of destruction which have resulted in loss of time, money and innocent lives..

For their own selfish political needs they are exploiting the needy people in the country and in turn making everyone suffer.. their fake communism and baseless chauvinism is a hindrance in the progress of the nation of its youth..

So, for all of u people who hate these political monsters, come, join this community and share ur beliefs!!!

As per a newsreport

Sena activists have demanded a complete ban on the use of Orkut.com at all the cyber cafes in Kalyan and also other areas.

“We will see that no cyber café allows their customers to surf Orkut.com. If we find someone surfing that website where things against our party chief and Gods have been written, we will destroy the place and the shops owner and customers will be punished for it,” said Kalyan’s Sena Chief, Arvind More. As always the question remains….why do we, the educated literate of Bombay, suffer such fools. I am waiting for the day when a mob goes and attacks Sena Bhavan for causing years of havoc on the city and being a stumbling block in the process.

Greening the City Gets a Corporate Boost

On the even of the World Environment Day, comes news of an alliance of unlikely sorts.

Greenpeace is tying up with PVR a production house to spread the message of environmental participation for all citizens.

Greenpeace, a global environmental activist group, has joined hands with PVR Ltd — a film exhibition, distribution and production company — to launch a green drive in the city. “We want to use our resources for an environmentally sustainable future not just in Mumbai but also across the country,” says Deepa Menon, who heads the corporate social responsibility department at PVR.[link]

It is imperative now, more than ever in history that we all change the way we lead our lives and impact the planet. Amd ots moce tp see that larger agencies get into alliances and use their clout to push the message out.

City Roads Turn into Racetracks

A couple of cities that host Formula 1 races do so on city streets. Monaco Grand Prix is one of them that comes to light. Thus, in the spirit of getting F-1 to Bombay, the city has started testing city roads where citizens are allowed to race at breakneck speed.

OK, enough kidding.

Why are we converting our city roads into speed strips and sadly death traps.

First it was that lout Alistair Pereira, and others who made Carter Road the graves of a few souls. And now we hear about these two prickheads who were racing on Ambedkar Road. They were racing their Innova cars and crashed into a bunch of motorcycles and cars parked on the street. Luckily no one was killed.

Shaikh who was driving the silver Innova blamed his friend Alam, “He was the one who wanted to race. It’s his fault completely. He suddenly came in my way and I lost control as I had to veer off. My car is ruined and I’m in deep trouble.” The two were on their way to Ghatkopar from Byculla.[link]

For crimes like these, they should put these guys in jail and give them 16 hours hard labour for a loooong time.

Cellphone Theft

Cellphones have become so endemic in our day and age that I think in a few years we will be born with a cellphone device genetically mutated to our body :)

Anyways, along with the high volume of cellphone users, comes a growing number of cellphone robberies. And one should not be surprised. Cellphones are expensive commodities and many of them cost upwards of 15,000 Rs (375 US$). And therefore they create circumstances for a lucrative black market.

According to the police, mobile thieves’ most preferred modus operandi was to target victims in crowded places. “There was a spate of incidents near traffic signals, where men on motorbikes would snatch the mobiles and zoom off.

They prefer crowded spots as it is difficult for victims to identify them,” said Prakash George, sen ior police inspector, Dharavi po lice station.

All I can say is that one needs to be careful about flashing their fancy gizmos in public and being wary of someone who will love to lay their hands on your mobile.

City Boys Head to Maths Olympiad in Vietnam

Close on the heels of a city boy participating in the International Physics Olympiad, two city boys are amongst the team that will represent India at the International Mathematics Olympiad. The event is being held in Vietnam.

Manas Joglekar and Prashant Sohani are two city students who have been selected to represent the country at the International Mathematics Olympiad to be held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi next month.

They are among the six youngsters who will jet off to Vietnam for the contest which is being held from July 19 to July 31.

The duo was selected during an orientation-cum-selection camp at the Homi Babha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) on Thursday.

Interestingly, this will be 18year-old Joglekar’s second Olympiad. He and his team had won the bronze medal last year. “I will try my best to bring home a gold medal. I am looking forward to it as the competition will test my mettle,” he said. The young achiever also came 21 in the AllIndia IIT-JEE and plans to study computer science.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Sohani got second time lucky. “I have been preparing for the Olympiad for four years. I couldn’t make it in my first attempt, but this time I got selected,” he explained. Sohani is also one of the youngest competitors this year. [link]

Second International Airport on the Radar

The government has given its blessings for a second international airport for Bombay. The plans for a second airport situated in New Bombay have been doing the rounds since the late 80’s. However successive governments have revived plans only to drop the ball soon thereafter.

However this time around, the repercussions of not having a second airport are grim and hence the political process has hastened to get the clearances.

The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new international airport in Mumbai through public-private partnership at a cost of roughly Rs9,970 crore.

Briefing newspersons after a Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, “The Cabinet gave its in-principle approval for an international airport at Navi Mumbai realising the need of the growing traffic through the city.”

The airport will be developed as a greenfield (new) facility along the lines of such airports at Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Bombay Getting Bustier

The Mid-Day reports that women in Bombay are becoming followers of Pamela Anderson and going the silicone alleyway.

Every year, 400 Mumbai women — married, middle-class and
middle-aged — undergo breast augmentation. Some, among that number, are as young as 65. They want to fight gravity, get perkier, and of course there’s the generous cleavage.

Confirming the growing trend for boob jobs, Dr Mohan Joshi, Professor of Surgery, Sion Hospital said, “We have noticed that an increasing number of women going under the knife are above 50.

Earlier, only teens used to come to us.” In fact, the queue for breast implants has increased by 20 per cent in the last one year. [link]
