Running late

You know what it’s like to wake up in the morning to a blaring alarm and you wonder what sort of perversion in the human mind permitted the invention of such a torturous experience? Till you remember that you set the alarm.

You know what it’s like to bounce out of bed in feigned energy in an attempt to ‘kickstart’ the day and start your yoga to muscles so stiff, they may as well wrap you in plasti-shield and hang you up to display in the butchers’ market?

You know what it’s like to run out of your bath and discover you are 5 minutes late? 5 minutes!! Do you know what 5 minutes look like? I’ll tell you….

Mukesh isnt that rich after all…

Its all about the money honey! So it turns out that all the hoopla of yesterday about Ambani being therichest dude was after all a fake bubble. A day later the bubble burst and Reliance Industries moved swiftly on Tuesday to deny a report that company chief Mukesh Ambani has become the world’s richest man thanks to a surge in the stock market. Reliance claims that their boss Ambani is not quite so rich after all, with a net worth of somewhere in the region of $50 billion.

They are completely wrong. They have done double calculations.

Quoted by Reliance spokesman Tushar Pania. What a bummer!

Mukesh Ambani and his midas touch

Mukesh Ambani is one happy man today. He became on Monday became the richest person in the world, surpassing American software czar Bill Gates, Mexican business tycoon Carlos Slim Helu and famous investment guru Warren Buffett, courtesy the bull run in the stock market. Ambani’s wealth of about Rs 2,49,000 crore includes about Rs 2,10,000 crore from RIL (50.98 per cent stake), Rs 37,500 crore from RPL (37.5 per cent) and Rs 2,100 crore from RIIL (46.23 per cent). Despite the controversies and prejudice Reliance has managed to come in a big way in India. Their attiude to get the job done this way or the other has worked, and has benifted the common man on the streets of India.

These are the five richest people in the world with their net worth

1. Mukesh Ambani ($63.2 billion)
2. Carlos Slim Helu ($62.2993 billion)
3. William (Bill) Gates ($62.29 billion)
4. Warren Buffett ($55.9 billion)
5. Lakshmi Mittal ($50.9 billion).

Think Pink to Fight Breast Cancer.

IN 1993, President Clinton named October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the third Friday in October as National Mammography Day in the U.S. The rest of the world was quick to adopt this new American tradition. India too is no exception to this. The incidence of breast cancer is increasing rapidly in India and it has overtaken cancer of the cervix, statistics reveal. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting females. The rise is being documented mainly in the metros, but it can be safely said that many cases in rural areas go unnoticed. It is reported that one in 22 women in India is likely to suffer from breast cancer during her lifetime. Sadly Indian women not only from suburban cities but even from big metropolitans like mumbai tend to neglect themselves in between various roles they have to play on a day to day basis.

Magical new cure for AIDS

I’m curious. Is this really possible? While I have great respect for alternative medicine, as far as I know, we don’t have a real cure for AIDS as yet. What do you know…I just stumbled onto the latest promise to come out of the Island of Dreams!

The board says,

Mumbai Via Oliver Luigi

Today I bumped across a blog called OLB Chronicles.

Oliver takes his mom and dad to go live in India for awhile. Dad works long hours and he, Oliver and mom try to learn how to survive in Mumbai, the craziest city in the world.

In the whole “world is a small place” vein…I have met Oliver’s parents and him at a birthday party in Brooklyn, last May. And our mutual friends introduced us and we did discuss about life in Bombay, since they were getting ready to move there. That conversation was the last of it, till I bump across their blog and see some familiar faces in the pics.

Check out the blog to get a perspective of our city from the eyes of a foreigner.

That is the total number of people who have been imprisoned this year for drunk driving. Mumbai traffic cops’ campaign against drunk driving has led to a sharp decline in alcohol consumption in the city, setting off panic among hoteliers and bar owners.

According to figures made available by the excise department, September saw a steep drop in alcohol comsumption. So this weekend when you leave home to get a drink do forget ur car keys at home. Kudos to Mumbai police !!!

Cashing on cricket

Cricketer Yuvraj was presented with the 911 Porsche by BCCI Vice-President Lalit Modi following his six sixers in the T20 and will now drive this car. Hence his Emerald Gold 2001Honda City (CH03-E0907) is up for grabs on eBay to the highest bidder. The bid started on October 15 at 7:45 pm and will end on October 25 at the same time. The money

The starting price is Rs 10,000. Proceeds from the sale will go to the NGO Bharmour Development Agency working towards the development of tribals in Himachal Pradesh. The key handing function will be held in Chandigarh or Gurgaon in November. Yuvraj will hand over the car himself.

So all you fans of Yuvraj can go online and start bidding. Good Luck ! Did I mention that the money recvd from selling this car will be donated to charity? Keep it up Yuvi Boy.

On the other hand MTDC has pulled out a cheap stunt. They are offering tourists a drive in the bus that carried the T20 world champions from the airport to Wankhede stadium. MAHARASHTRA Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (MTDC) is trying to cash in on the T20 cricket fever and has offered tourists a drive in the bus that carried the T20 world champions from the airport to the Wankhede stadium.

Nilambari and Vibhavari, the two buses will make round trips from The Oberoi Hotel and tourists can be a part of the historical bus for Rs 90. They can also book this bus for any occasion they wish to celebrate. MTDC inaugurated the services on October 13 and clims to have recieved a big reponse on Saturday when India took on Australia in the T20 match at the Brabourne Stadium.
I mean common yaar its not like the men in blue toured in this bus for a entire series / career. It was just a couple of hrs and who would want to spend 90 bucks just because the men in blue sat on the very same seats for a couple of mintues. ( I say this cause half the time the team was standing and waving to people on the roof of the bus) .
