Dozens Reporterd Dead in India Attacks: The state’s highest ranking police official, A.N. Roy, said the attackers, armed with machine guns and grenades, opened fire and disappeared. Local television reported deaths tolls as high as 80, none of them could be confirmed and the police were yet to give an official count of their own. [NYT [3] ]
Multiple attacks kill and wound scores in Mumbai: Teams of heavily armed gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular tourist attraction and a crowded train station in at least seven attacks in India’s financial capital, killing at least 78 people and wounding at least 200, officials said Thursday.
Among the dead was Hemant Karkare, chief of the police anti-terrorist squad in Mumbai, Indian television channels reported.[IHT [4]]
