BUT in my opinion rather than having a member of your family to represent you in the army, proper implementation and execution of the available resources is more important.As we are not falling short in the number of armymen or defence forces, the problem is not the quantity but IT IS THE QUALITY AND THE COORDINATION OF THE SERVICES.If you see other countries where the number of armymen is lesser ,they are still stronger than ours because the quality of services they have.Impovement in weapon technology ,proper deployement of the forces and the diversion of the so called VIP services towards the common man wuold be more effective than simply outnumbering other armies. BUT YES, WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE COMMUNITY SERVICES IS ABSOLUTELY WORTHWHILE COZ WE AS CITIZENS ARE BOUND TO IT MORALLY AND A DRASTIC STEP SHOULD BE TAKEN IN THIS DIRECTION. We would develop a little more respect and understanding for our men in uniform. However given the size of our populace it would be extremely difficult to train, equip, clothe, feed and pay such a large army. We already have a 1 million strong army. Add 150000 more for the navy and airforce. We also have a large number of central police organisations, which actually are far too many and too bloated to be of any use. Let me name a few - SRP, CRPF, CISF, BSF, RPF, GRP, ITBP. All these have been developed on the lines of the army but have not the focus, discipline and morale of the army. Add to these the NSG, SPG, SSB, and various others. Incidently, may I give you an interesting bit of information - the NSG is comprised 80% of army troops. This is what you don't see except during operations like the mumbai episode. What you actually see are the 20% who are policemen, providing VIP security. Israel enforces the draft because they can afford it. Earlier there were major compulsions to develop a sizeable standing army to take on a large number of hostile neighbours, but now with their economy doing well, selling arms to India, many of their young men and women don't want to join the army. As regards saying no to corruption, it depends on each one of us, we who don't bother to vote, we who don't raise our voices, and we who don't demand. Because we can usually manage to find a friend's uncle who can swing things for us and find some way to keep going. I wish what you say could be true.
