An over hyped event – Ash weds Abhi

Frankly speaking I feel that this is the most over hyped wedding I have ever heard of. I agree that lately fame has gone to the head for Bachchan’s but we cant balme them alone. Ok Amitabh may have tried to cover the weddingexpenses by giving the full wedding coverage rights to a UK firm for 5 crores, (infact its very smart of him) . But our media is the main culprit for all the uneccessary importance to this event. Coming back to selling the right of the wedding coverage, this is something which is very very common in countries like US and UK where celebrities try to give the rights of the first photoshoot (Brangalina’s child) , or the rights to document the wedding ( there are a zillion celebraties who have done this) , life after wedding ( Remeber Britney Spears??.. and Jessica Simpron And Nick etc..). But this trend is farely new to India, there are few cleebraties who have done this, infact Bachchan’s are one of the first few.

Right now I think this all I found intersting in the Ash -Abhi wedding… the rest is all OK.

Anyways here are some pictures of the couple. Apparently someone who had been to the wedding circulated these pictures. Am sure Mr Big B must grinding his teeth seeing these pictures all over the media.

Uthup’s new look in Hattrick

Hattrick.jpg

Massive round bindis, a whole bunch of kajra (garland) that she wears in her head, and colorful Kancheepuram sarees.. Am sure these are just enough to bring Usha Uthup’s name at tip of our tounge. As a child I remember mom and me shaking a leg to her “Zupi Zupi” to liven up those sleepy afternoons. Usha Uthup is attractive in her own, inimitable way. Draped in her signature Kancheevaram, sporting jasmine flowers and a chestnut-sized bindi she, almost always, calls for a second look. As I grew up I always admired her for the way she carried herself in sarees despite the fact she sang ultra modern pop songs and sometimes sang desi songs with pop twist. She can sing in different languages and famous for her unique voice quality.

Now she has taken on a new Avtar in the new movie Hattrick. The bindis are gone, instead she sports a stylish pair of glasses , the long hair full of kajra is replaced by a chic short colored hair style and she has taken on to colorful Kaftan isntean of her signature Kancheevaram.

Am not sure if the movie is that good enough to watch it in a theater, but yeah Usha Uthup has managed once again has made people take a second look at her. She kinda looks like a modern granny – sort of a cute and loving but with mordern thinking types. But I also love her old traditional with a tinge of flamboyance look much more.

Viewers choice or Thackeray’s Choice ??

Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray has said that if he feels that the film Black Friday glorifies Dawood, then he’ll shut it down.

The controversial film on the 1993 Mumbai blasts had finally made it to the theatres two weeks ago.

“I haven’t seen the film. I plan to watch it, and if it glorifies Dawood, I will make sure the film is never shown again,” said Bal Thackeray, Leader, Shiv Sena.

But the threat has shocked the makers of the film. They say that they had already screened the film for the Thackeray family and even accepted the cuts that they had asked for.

Moreover, they say that there’s no attempt to glorify Dawood or the underworld, but instead it is a graphic depiction of the city’s darkest hours – the 1992 riots, communal polarization and the coming together of the underworld to trigger a series of blasts on March 12, 1993.

However, Bal Thackeray’s threat is just the latest in a line of setbacks for the film, which has already faced legal censorship.

The film’s release was earlier stopped for two years by the court hearing the 1993 blasts case. The reason for that was that the film could bias public opinion.

Now that the trial is over and the film is out, it appears that it has run into Mumbai’s moral censors. I feel its better to leave the choice to the viewers. After all they are the once who pay for the tickets. For once why cant these politicians look into something which really requires their attention ? Poverty, Disease, Unemployment, Pollution, Gov officials who accept bribe and so on… The list is endless.. Mr Thackeray are u listening ??

Presenting Aby N Ash

Ab.jpg

Finally the most talked about couple of Bollywood, have dished out their love story after a long denial to the media and have got engaged. The news channels and the new papers all were running to get a piece of them. Stories were spun and are being talked about the couple and lots of things are being spculated in respect to their horscope and age difference and blah blha…

Interestingly enough, both Abhi and Ash have had a painful past as far as love is concerned.Aishwarya had Salman which begun from a perfect love scene and ended in a pretty brutal way and Salman lost quite a lot of reputation after those incidents. She was then linked to Viveik Oberoi which she had denied all the way long.Funnily, they say that whoever Ash enters into a relationship with, gets doomed but we hope Abhishek wouldn’t. Abhishek had first been engaged to Karisma Kapoor but somehow that didn’t turn out well and Karisma married somoene else soon after.

Fans have had mixed opinions about this. While the Ash fans are happy,Abhi’s fans feel that he deserved someone better like Rani Mukerjee or Priyanka Chopra

Sanjay Dutt Convicted : Following Gandhi’s Footsteps to Prison

Sanjay Dutt back in Prison

Sanjay Dutt has been found guilty of possessing an AK-56 rifle and a 9mm pistol under India’s Arms Act. Whole morning I have been keeping a tab via on-line news regarding Dutt Jr. court appearance today. To tell you the truth with the success of his recent films, regular television interviews and numerous rounds of holy places – I actually believed that he would be let-off by the Indian courts.

Just like me, I am sure there are many others who would have surely been shocked on hearing this court verdict. Though he was acquitted of more serious conspiracy charges, Sanjay could still face upto maximum 5 years in prison for the charges he has been found guilty off.

Obviously the judge’s ruling did not go down with the accused and his family.

BBC reports:

Dutt was in court to hear Tuesday’s verdict and looked agitated as the judge delivered his verdict.

Dressed in a grey and red-checked shirt and jeans with a vermillion mark on his forehead, the actor told the judge: “I am the only earning member of the family.”

He was ordered to stop speaking and to remain in court. All accused pronounced guilty are immediately taken into police custody.

Judge PD Kode said the actor was guilty of illegally possessing weapons that had been given to him by some of the men accused of carrying out the bomb attacks, but he added: “I’ve not found him to be a terrorist or destructor.”

Festive Season Begins At Prithvi Theatre

Legendary Prithviraj Kapoor

When one mentions Stage Plays and Coffee in a single sentence then the only place that instantly comes to mind is Prithvi Theatre in Juhu, Mumbai. Other than Bollywood, Theatre is the only form of entertainment and art that I feel passionately about. Blame it on my schooling days when I performed for the first time at this very theatre or my college days which were mostly spent at the Prithvi canteen rather than the classroom.

A theatre company called ‘Prithvi Theatres’ was started by the famed actor Prithviraj Kapoor around the 1940s with the aim of giving something to the society in return of the celebrity status and honor they had bestowed upon him. He commissioned original plays on circumstantial topics of the day, which his group then performed across India. In 1978, Prithvi Theatre was built several years later in memory of his extraordinary commitment and enthusiasm for theatre.

Prithvi Theatre has come a long way since then – with annually 400 shows, 100 plays, nearly 50 groups participation and an outreach of around 70,000 thousand audience.

Gandhi-giri saves Sanjay Dutt (for now)

It seems like Gandhi-giri has managed to save actor Sanjay Dutt from landing-up behind bars, well atleast for the time being.

Dutt along with 25 other accused in the 1993 serial bomb blasts case appeared before the TADA court today. The actor is charged with possessing an AK-56 rifle and destroying it with the help of friends. He has already served 18 months in prison in connection with the charges against him.

NDTV reports:

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before a TADA court on Wednesday in response to summons issued to him.

The summons were issued by designated Judge P D Kode, who had asked Dutt and 25 other accused to appear before him for giving their attendance on Wednesday.

The court is giving the verdict in phases and has exempted accused on bail, including Dutt, from personal appearance. However, they are summoned to the court periodically.

The court has so far not declared when it would give the verdict on the alleged complicity of Sanjay and a group of his friends who helped him in destroying the weapon.

Outside the court, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told reporters that the verdict on Dutt is expected after Diwali holidays.

And as always, members of Bollywood Industry have stepped forward to show their support for the man; who they claim would never to anything to harm his own country’s sovereignty.

All I can say is that with his political connections, father’s good-will and Bollywood Industry’s influence, it seems highly un-likely that he would be severely punished. But then I could be completely wrong.

Whats the buzz in Bollywood?

Exactly what is the buzz in bollywood currently ??? Is it the high profile visit of Brad & Angelina Jolie or the scenes with the castings of Ram Gopal Varma’s Sholay .That reminds me did any of u guys check out the new look of Amitabh playing Gabbar ??? Ramu has done a lot of detailing on Big B’s look and must admit that it is a pretty neat work done there… Kudoos to Ramu !! Check out this aricle for more fun info on the movie Sholay then and Sholay to be Read here

• Gabbar Singh
Say Gabbar and the only name that comes to mind is Amjad Khan. Casting against type Ramu may have signed on Amitabh Bachchan for one of the most memorable characters in Indian film history , but the Big B has very large shoes to fill.

DID YOU KNOW: That Danny Dengzogpa was the first choice for the original Gabbar but declined.

• JAI
Ramu sure has a sense of humour.
Why else would he be casting Mohit Ahlawat as Jai?

DID YOU KNOW: Shatrughan Sinha was initially slated to play the role. Amitabh Bachchan was almost killed at the end of the movie when a stray bullet from Dharmendra (Veeru) missed him by inches.

Big Tension in Bollywood

I am the biggest fan of Bollywood….NOT !!!!

However when news days are slow I do read gossipy news articles in the papers.

This one in the Mid-Day caught my attention for all the wrong reasons.

Firstly two actors have a tiff and they fight…

That’s when Patekar told him to f*** off. By that time, everyone from choreographer Ahmed Khan to the junior artistes had gathered round in surprise. Anees realised that this could lead to fisticuffs so he called for a break. For one hour, Akshay, Nana and Anees were huddled inside the room sorting out matters. Later, to everyone’s surprise, Nana and Akshay continued to shoot till 10 pm.

Now, of course anything like this is bad publicity for the director, but could be great publicity for the actors and and the movie itself. However the director comes out with a completely lame-ass excuse.

But Bazmee denies the fight, saying, “I was to shoot a song between Akshay and Nana that had some dhakkam dhukki at the end. I didn’t want a fight master for the scene as I wanted a naturalreaction from the other artistes. So I had a meeting with Akshay and Nana and told them what I wanted. Besides them and my assistant directors, no one else knew this was a mock fight. That’s why everyone thought they were actually fighting. They were shocked! And I managed to get kamaal ke expressions from everybody. After that, Nana and Akshay were back to sharing jokes and playing pranks on each other. They love each other and share zabardast tuning.”

All I can say for something so bizarre is….”Aaaila..Alibaug mein paida hua hai kya mein ??”

Wot say u ??
