Between Khar & Bandra
What lies between Khar Road and Bandra?
1. A Graveyard
2. A Crematorium
3. A Turntable
4. All of the above
5. None of the above
As the train takes up the bridge to cross over from the Western Line to the Harbour Line, the horizon opens up and a new world unfolds.
1. Here’s the graveyard. On festive days, there are flowers and candles on the graves in the evenings. On other days the graveyard is quite empty. You can even see some clothes drying in there.
2. Here’s the crematorium. I have often spotted mourning people around a pyre here.
3. Here’s the turn-table! The massive turn-table. My best guess is that it is used to turn engines around. All my friends laughed when I told them this. They thought I was speaking about electric trains. Electric trains can be run either way you see. But me, I was speaking about the long-distance outstation trains. They have engines you know, and maybe they turn engines around using this turntable mechanism? It looks out of this world to me :-)
What do you think it is…?
It is, of course, a turn table used to turn around
engines for long distance trains.
Very cool Selma. Great observation especially that turntable track.
cool selma. m sure its a turntable track.
hey! where is this turntable?? i haven’t ever noticed it.. or maybe we’v become so used to that track that its never been particularly noticed..
@ Hemant
I thought as much too, I wasn’t sure about it though!
@ Akhsay
Thank you, Akshay! Its so out of this world, isn’t it? Almost like something big is going to happen there… but looks like its just a turntable, bah!
@ Soaeb
By now I’m sure too! But I wish I could see that thing turning once :-)
@ Pragni
Pragni, while traveling from Khar Road to Bandra on the harbour line, the train takes a bridge. This part of the city unfolds on the left… Cool, ain’t it? :-)
