Clean Mumbai, Green Mumbai???

All the major and important roads in the suburbs have been given an add on. A green plastic dustbin!! All of a sudden one day, one could see an army of these green dustbins hanging by their short stumps on the footpaths of a lot of roads. S.V.road, Juhu, by-lanes of Parle, you name it, were all proudly thrusting thier bottle green BrihanMumbai dustbins out.

The next day, one wayward dustbin was spotted lying in the center of the road, another was attached to its stump with ropes and another was stuck to the stump with the help of those brown cello-tapes. More had just disappeared. So much for “Clean Mumbai, Green Mumbai”

At another time altogether, I spotted a hoarding put up at the entrance of the V.T.Station subway. It had a huge picture of Gandhiji and ” Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” written in bold blue colors. Also on that board were paan-spittle marks, a lot of filth, and dust. Aren’t we a city of contradictions!!!

I am so immuned to this that i can even laugh at it.

Its poor planning that we cant even make sure dustbins stay in place, so that we can start educating people about their purpose.

am sure some manufacturer and installer made a lot of money from the sponsor.

Similar to man-hole covers that get stolen, I am sure ppl stole the green cans for their own usage. Also i remember some state govt. in the north (Jharkhand) ordered posters of Gods and goddesses to be plastered on the walls so that ppl atleast dont spit on those walls. It was a disastrous idea as ppl continued to spit, no matter what.

Maybe a catchier tagline to put on the walls would be “Americans keep their country clean” Maybe then our dear apeing Indians would be inspired to keep India clean too with effect to their sincere efforts to westernize. Sadly enough, cleanliness is mostly a myth.
