Wax works at Mt Mary.

Wax works

Painful arthritis? Give a leg. Want a baby? Give a doll. Wish for a safe journey? Give a plane.

These are just some of the candles, believers to the Mount Mary church at Bandra, offer as part of their prayers. Believers say that the offerings can help cure illnesses.

So, on the rows of stalls, just outside the church, are candles in the shape of different body parts like eyes, ears, nose, legs and other shapes like houses, dolls, aeroplanes, money, etc. Each shape has a special significance.

Next time you want something just light a candle.

Here are some pictures from the week long fair at Mt Mary also known as the Bandra Fair.

The Mount Mary Fair! With all due respect to Mother Mary and believers. Decades of faith. fine, but this is a nightmare for residents and stalls need to be kept OFF the streets and restricted to wax works or religious items near the church. Faith does NOT extend to candy floss, giant wheels, etc. A mela needs to have a maidan not the streets. There are two hospitals in the vicinity and it takes upto an hour or more to commute within Bandra during the festival.

K Sense – yes the traffic situation is unnecessary but it is something we’ll have to live with like the several other things we live with. I don’t think it going to change. Living in Bandra I really know how bad it can get but than it is something I don’t mind since it is only 1 week a year.
